I remember often how proud she was of me when I finally got my master's degree and how we went out to celebrate together (she did the drinking for me and I drove). I can still vividly see and hear Anne leaning out the car window, pointing to me and shouting to the world "Look! Mom! Engineer!" That was far superior to any of the other congratulations I received--and the only one I remember.
I also remember the times she came to San Diego and accompanied David and me on our vigorous celebration of "Christmas on the Prado". Her enthusiasm and jokes (even the "bad" ones) and laughter made the occasion extra special. And who else could have thumped David so regularly and made him love it!

She has an admirable ability to make friends instantly, to connect with other people on a special and personal level. For example, Anne and Willy
Cobb had an instant bonding at first meeting, and they thoroughly enjoyed ganging up and picking on me.
