Verse 1
Now others may brag about their gathering spot
But you won’t hear of many who have what we’ve got.
It’s not just the goodies that pile up
in the fridge
But a park, two museums and one covered
bridge. |

Chorus
On the very last Sunday of every July
Just head to Yoncalla; camp under the sky.
No matter your foibles or the places
you’ve been
When you get to Nellie’s you’ll be home
again. |
|
|
Verse 2
Our choice of a weekend please let me explain
It’s 28 years without Oregon rain.
If we get over-heated and surely we might
We can always cool down with a good water fight. |

Verse 3
The pinochle matches are what I live for
In spades now the next ones have added
one more.
If you play Aggravation there’s only one
scheme
Be nice to Aunt Nellie; get on the white
team! |

|
Verse
4
Well they truly were ringers when
Clare hit the postAnd he psyched
us all out with his confident boast.
We were hard pressed to beat him though
Lord knows we tried
But we hung up the horse shoes the year
that he died. |

Verse 5
To the other folks no longer with us we pray
That their spirits will join us on this
happy day.
We can’t name you all but let’s mention
at least
That Herschel looks down from the hill
on our feast. |

Verse
6
I met a stranger last year at the do
He was rough round the edges but a friendly cuss too.
When I couldn’t place him on my family
tree
I figured a Phillips was what he must be. |

Now the Phillips they pegged him a Chapman or Foster.
He just wouldn’t fit in on any kin roster.
Let’s look at his address and see where he lives
And check out his comment for the clues that it gives. |

Verse
8
“My family, they all died when I was a child
So I grew up orphaned and rootless and wild.
I heard at a rest-raunt I was just passing through
And now that I’ve been here I know that it’s true.” |
David Baldwin - 4th Grade
(no picture of a stranger -but this should
have puzzled anyone in the family) |

Everyone's Aunt Nell |
Verse 9
Nellie she smiled as she lengthened the list
“That kind of endorsement is hard to
resist.”
You never can fathom how life will
progress
For this homeless guy had an email address. |

|
Verse 10
We take your donations to assuage you of guilt
You might walk away with CDs or a quilt
And if you can come up with a verse for
this rhyme
Just bring it back next year at
blueberry time. |
